OUR MISSION

The Committee to Benefit the Children's (CBC's) mission is to provide resources for treatment, care and family support to benefit children with cancer, leukemia, sickle cell anemia and other serious blood disorders, seeking treatment at St. Christopher's Hospital in Philadelphia.  We are dedicated to improving the lives of these children and their families.

Today the Committee to Benefit the Children provides direct financial assistance with non-medical, essential expenses not covered by other agencies. The CBC pays for rent/mortgage, utility and phone bills, car insurance and payments, meal vouchers, parking and transportation, prosthetics and wigs, child care, counseling and referral services, snacks and toys during treatment, other family living expenses, and funerals.

The CBC works closely with the social workers in the Oncology and Hematology units at St. Christopher’s Hospital. The social workers know these children and their families and can identify specific areas of need on a case-by- case basis. Requests are reviewed and decisions are made almost immediately. All bills are paid directly to the company with no cash exchange.
In addition to financial assistance, the CBC provides fun activities ranging from holiday and special occasion parties to supporting sibling camps and off-site family field trips where patients and their families enjoy building memories year after year.

Since its inception in 1980, the CBC has raised more than four million dollars for the children and their families through fundraisers and generous sponsors. The CBC has stayed true to its mission over the last 37 years by providing resources for treatment, care and family support to the children at St. Christopher’s Hospital in Philadelphia. The Committee to Benefit the Children is dedicated to improving the lives of the children and their families.
