COVID-19 is turning life upside down, but most of us will land on our feet. The patients and families we at the Committee to Benefit the Children (CBC) serve started out behind the curve, and we are worried about how long this hardship will last for them. In response we have established a relief fund to go above and beyond our regular support to assist our families.
Jack is a 5-year-old little boy diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). He was diagnosed in May of 2018 and started treatment in the Department of Oncology at St. Christopher's Hospital for Children (SCHC). Since being diagnosed, Jack has endured close to two years of chemotherapy, medical evaluations, planned and unplanned hospitalizations, and other hardships related to his diagnosis. Jack is currently in remission and is followed closely by his oncology team at SCHC.
Jack lives with his mom, dad, and younger sister in Pennsylvania. As a result of COVID-19, Jack's parents have not been able to work. His mom, a nurse, made the incredibly difficult decision to take unpaid leave to protect and care for Jack and his sister. Jack's dad has been laid off due to the COVID-19 Pennsylvania shut down.
We need your help to fund these emergency needs as quickly as possible. Your support today will ensure that Jack and many more patients and families will be able to pay their rent and purchase necessities. Without this support we will have families looking at months of back rent and utilities due that they will not have the money to pay. We cannot have our parents feeling the stress of accumulating insurmountable debit during this crisis and feeling food insecure.
